Hot (Summer) Dog

I live on the coast of California where there is a lot of fog and the temperature is typically in the high 50's to mid-60's. September is the hottest time of the year and we call it our Indian Summer (isn't that politically incorrect?!)

Saturday we went to a BBQ in San Mateo and it was quite warm. I know that dogs can't sweat so they pant to cool off, but this park was so warm! Luckily one of my friends had set up some blankets in the shade and Bubs sat with them for a while with a nice bowl of water. He was pooped on the car ride home and took a nap in the car.

Tips for Warm Weather:
  • Plenty of clean drinking water
  • Shaded place for the dog to hide not only to prevent over heating, but to keep their paw pads from getting burned
  • Don't leave the dog in the car
Signs of Heat Stroke:
  •  Excessive Panting
  • Warm, dry skin
  • Not obeying commands
  • Vomiting
  • Collapsing
  • Anxious Expression
How to treat Heat Stroke:
  • Cool (not cold) Bath
  • Cold Compress to lower body temperature
  • Massage Legs
  • Provide cool (not cold) water for dog to drink
  • See Vet
