Administrative Professionals Day

Happy Admin Day to all the hard working admins out there! A lot of people don't realize how much we do to keep our managers lives in  order; we are the ones doing all the "behind the scenes work" and without us, SOME (not mine thank goodness) managers wouldn't be able to function. Today is a well deserved appreciation day!

I started working as an admin in 2007 and I've had a fare share of mostly good, but some bad managers.

I can say right now, I have two of the best managers anyone could ask for. Not only do they have my back which they have proved time and time again, they are also professional in their requests. They consistently take the time to ask me how am I, thank me for all the work that I help them with, and even "shoot the shit" with me on occasion. I feel appreciated every day by these two and I don't even need a "special" day for them to appreciate me. 

The worst manager that I've had was very much like Meryl Streep's character in the Devil Wears Prada. She would stroll in on her cell phone, dump her jacket and purse on my desk before walking to her office. NO JOKE. She would ask me to call and make reservations last minute at high demand restaurants and "use my woman ways" to obtain a reservation; basically asking me to flirt with the guy to get a reservation... sorry lady, J9 don't play that. One day, she showed up to the office with her sick son and asked me to watch him while she was in meetings all morning. I didn't know that Admin work entailed daycare. Thank goodness she decided to jump ship for another company. A few years later, I had moved onto a new group and she called my new manager to make an appointment and didn't even recognize my name! Apparently, things didn't work out for her at the company she jumped ship to and she was trying to get hired back.

I am so lucky where I'm at and I'm feeling the love today from all the people that I work with.
